The superhero blockbuster, released in April, has taken an estimated 2.79 billion US dollars (£2.3 billion) at the global box office.

It is thought it could earn between 800 million and one billion dollars globally when final numbers are reported.

The Marvel movie's box office sales could soon be eclipsed by the next Star Wars film, Solo: A Star Wars Story, which is released on May 24.
