A 62-year-old man was charged with intent to endanger life, assault and possession of a knife after an incident at a GP surgery in Ampleforth, near York.

Inspectors who visited the Roman Catholic boarding school in Ryedale found arrangements to safeguard pupils, including the most vulnerable, remain ineffective.

The Education Secretary has told the school to cease accepting new pupils in a bid to "safeguard the education and well-being of children".
