Finsbury Park terror attack: Police given more time to question suspect

Police have been given more time to question the Finsbury Park terror suspect.

Darren Osborne, a 47-year-old father-of-four, was arrested after a van hit pedestrians near a London mosque in the early hours of Monday which injured 11 Muslims attending prayers.

Here is what we know about the attack so far:

  • Police were called just after 12.20am on Monday to reports of a vehicle striking pedestrians in Seven Sisters Road
  • The suspect, who is believed to have acted alone, was detained by members of public at the scene after being heard shouting "I want to kill more Muslims"
  • He has been named as 47-year-old father-of-four Darren Osborne from Cardiff
  • He has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder
  • Scotland Yard later said he had been further arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of terrorism
  • 11 people were injured in the incident, eight of whom were taken to hospital
  • The elderly man who collapsed prior to the attack died at the scene
  • PM Theresa May hailed the bravery of those who detained the attacker as she condemned the attack as "sickening" and vowed to defeat all forms of extremism
  • The Muslim Council of Britain said the van intentionally ran over worshippers, and it called for extra security around mosques

Police given more time to question Finsbury Park suspect

Police have been given extra time to question the man being held over the Finsbury Park attack.

Darren Osborne, a 47-year-old father-of-four was arrested after a van hit pedestrians near a London mosque in the early hours of Monday which injured 11 Muslims attending prayers.

Eight were taken to hospital for treatment and one person died.

Osborne was arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of terrorism; attempted murder and murder, he remains in custody at a south London police station.
