Transfer deadline day: Who went where?

Despite a busy night of football, transfer deadline day deals saw Premier League clubs complete a January spending spree of £215m - but turn a profit overall.

  • Loan deals saw Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho go to Crystal Palace, West Brom sign Marc Wilson from Bournemouth and Southampton take Nice keeper Mouez Hassen while Swansea swapped Neil Taylor for Villa forward Jordan Ayew
  • Villa were among the big spenders as Championship clubs spent a record £40m on deadline day, buying Brentford forward Scott Hogan for a fee that could rise to £12m

Man City sell midfielder to Wigan Athletic

Wigan Athletic continued their impressive work in the transfer market on deadline by snapping up Manchester City midfielder Jack Byrne.

Byrne, who spent the first half of the season at Blackburn, has signed a three-and-a-half year deal at the DW Stadium.

Jack is one for the long-term,a really hungry player who we feel can develop here over the next few seasons, a real talent.

Nottingham Forest net striker Clough

Nottingham Forest have signed striker Zach Clough from League One Bolton, the two clubs have confirmed.

Nottingham Forest are delighted to announce the signing of striker Zach Clough on a four-and-a-half-year deal.

The 21-year-old signs for The Reds after leaving Bolton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee.

Clough, who came through the youth ranks at Bolton, scored 21 times in 59 league appearances for The Trotters, including nine times this season in Sky Bet League One.

The diminutive forward can play in a variety of attacking roles both out wide and through the middle.

Aston Villa complete deal for Brentford striker

Aston Villa have announced the arrival of Scott Hogan from Championship rivals Brentford.

The striker has signed a four-and-a-half year deal at Villa Park.

Hogan said: "I’m delighted to be at a club like Aston Villa.

“With its history and tradition I can’t wait to start working hard and helping the team.

“It all happened quite quickly and now I'm looking forward to meeting my new team-mates tomorrow and beginning a new chapter in my career."

Man City complete deal for midfielder Herrera

Manchester City have signed midfielder Yangel Herrera from Atletico Venezuela, the South American club have confirmed.

It is expected the player will be sent out on loan to sister club New York City.

The 19-year-old already has one international cap for Venezuela.

Arsenal youngster heads to Birmingham on loan

Polish youngster Krystian Bielik has joined Birmingham City on loan from Arsenal for the remainder of the season.

Bielik has made two senior appearances for the Gunners since arriving from Legia Warsaw.

He has all the qualities and ingredients to be a top-level centre-back.

The one thing he is missing is the experience in this position because he came to us as a central midfielder, but I converted him because I felt he can play the type of football we want to play as a centre-back.
