Gunman who killed The Voice contestant Christina Grimmie was 'heavily armed'

The gunman who killed The Voice contestant Christina Grimmie, 22, following a performance by the star in Orlando was "heavily armed" at the time of the shooting, according to police.

Named by officials as Kevin James Loibl the gunman attacked the singer as she was signing autographs and it is thought he may have been a "deranged fan".

Loibl - who was tackled by Miss Grimmie's brother - shot and killed himself after opening fire on the singer.

The brother of murdered singer Christina Grimmie has paid a touching tribute to his sister after she was shot by a "heavily armed" gunman outside a concert venue in Orlando.

Describing Christina as " a superstar" he said his sibling had been "more than my sister. She was a partner in life", as he remembered the star in an emotional Facebook post.

The man who shot and killed singer Christina Grimmie has been identified by US police as 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl of Saint Petersburg, Florida.

Loibl travelled to Ms Grimmie's concert in Orlando and police chief John Mina said earlier he was armed with two handguns, two loaded magazines and a hunting knife.

The 22-year-old singer performed with the band Before You Exit and was shot as she signed autographs for fans at a merchandise table after the concert.

Her brother tackled the gunman who then shot and killed himself during the struggle.

GoFundMe page set up to help Christina Grimmie's family

A GoFundMe page has been created by Christina Grimmie's manager to support her family.

On the page Brian Teefey said "words cannot describe the pain I am feeling...Christina was like a second daughter to me."

He added that the money raised via the page will be used "to assist her family in their time of need".

Ms Grimmie, 22, who found fame after appearing on The Voice talent show in America, was shot dead after a concert in Orlando on Friday night.

Police said her attacker was heavily armed with two guns and a hunting knife.

A suspect in the fatal shooting of The Voice star Christina Grimmie took two handguns, loaded magazines and a hunting knife to the scene, police said on Saturday.

Miss Grimmie, 22, was attacked when she was signing autographs after a concert in Orlando on Friday night, and later succumbed to her injuries.

Her alleged attacker then shot himself shortly afterwards.

Now Orlando police say the 27-year-old suspect arrived at the scene with more than one weapon as well as ammunition.

Police added that the suspect didn't appear to know Miss Grimmie personally and may have been a deranged fan.

Maroon 5's Adam Levine, on whose Voice team Miss Grimmie competed, said he was devastated by the young singer's death.
