Derailed train kills two in Philadelphia

Two Amtrak workers were killed when a passenger train derailed in Philadelphia on Sunday.

Amtrak said the train, en route from New York to Savannah, Georgia, struck a digger, causing the lead engine to come off the tracks.

In addition to the fatalities, more than 30 of the 341 passengers were treated for injuries.

Two Amtrak were confirmed dead after train struck a digger and derailed in Philadelphia, causing numerous injuries.

A US state senator said a digger operator and supervisor were killed when the train - travelling from New York - hit a piece of equipment on the tracks.

Debris from the crash flew into the first two carriages, injuring some passengers.

More than 30 people were taken to hospitals with injuries not considered life-threatening.

The Northeast Corridor between New York and Philadelphia is currently suspended.
