'Fifth Beatle' Sir George Martin dies at 90
Sir George Martin, the record producer known as the "Fifth Beatle", has died aged 90, Ringo Starr has said on Twitter.
Sir George helped the Beatles achieve global success as the head of the Parlophone record label after hearing their demo tape in 1962.

George Martin 'saw the real talent' in the Beatles

George Martin "saw the real talent in John Lennon and Paul McCartney", Beatles biographer Philip Norman said as he paid tribute to the star.
Martin, who signed the Beatles, died yesterday aged 90. He is survived by his wife Judy and four children.
Mr Norman told ITV News: "He devoted himself to making it sound as good as it could. He became a celebrity producer although he didn't want to be a celebrity."

Abbey Road Studios, a converted Georgian townhouse in St John's Wood, north London, rose to fame in the 1960s as the Beatles recorded almost all of their albums and singles there - even naming their 1969 album Abbey Road.

Producer and music director Giles Martin, has posted a touching online tribute to his pop impresario father George Martin, writing on Twitter that he will miss him "more than words can say."
Martin, who signed the Beatles, died yesterday aged 90. He is survived by his wife Judy and four children.

Midge Ure: 'We all learned from George Martin'
Producer and singer Midge Ure has spoken about the death of Sir George Martin, describing him as "one of the most wonderful people I have ever met."
In a phone call to GMB, Ure says "we all learned from George."
He credited Martin not only with giving the world the Fab Four, but with pioneering stereo music.
"Up until George got involved with the music industry, everything was in mono," he explains. "George insisted that we bring in a three-track tape recorder."
