Police in America have released CCTV footage which they say shows a teenager pulling a gun from his waistband shortly before he was shot by officers.

A state of emergency was declared in St. Louis County in the US following violence in the town of Ferguson during events to mark a year since the police shooting of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown.

Tyrone Harris, who was shot by police during Sunday's memorial, has been charged with four counts of assault. Police said the CCTV shows him with a gun.

Police in America have released CCTV footage which they say shows a teenager pulling a gun from his waistband shortly before he was shot by officers.

Tyrone Harris has been charged with four counts of assault after allegedly firing at police during an event to mark a year since the killing of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown.

Harris, 18, was left in a critical condition on Sunday after being shot in Ferguson, Missouri, when officers returned fire, police said.

The footage shows a crowd running for cover before a man wearing a white t-shirt pulls what appears to be a gun from his waistband and runs off-camera. Police said the man is Harris.

State of emergency declared in St. Louis after Ferguson anniversary violence

A state of emergency has been declared in St. Louis County following last night's violence in Ferguson, during events to mark a year since the police shooting of an unarmed black teenager.

St. Louis County Executive Steve Senger said: "The recent acts of violence will not be tolerated in a community that has worked so tirelessly over the last year to rebuild and become stronger."

"In light of last night's violence and unrest in the city of Ferguson, and the potential for harm to persons and property, I am exercising my authority as county executive to issue a state of emergency effective immediately".

Man shot by police during Ferguson anniversary event charged with assault

Tyrone Harris, who was shot by police during an event to mark a year since the killing of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown, has been charged with four counts of assault.

Harris is suspected of firing at officers in violence in the suburb of Ferguson, St. Louis in the US state of Missouri on Sunday.

The 18-year-old black man is in a critical condition in hospital after being shot by officers when they returned fire, police said.

The man opened fire on a police vehicle, police returned fire and pursued the man leading to a gun battle in which the man was injured, according to Jon Belmar, the St Louis County police chief.

There were two shooting incidents during the memorial event, according to Belmar.

Two people were reported injured in the shooting, their condition was not immediately clear.

The shooting appears to have occurred as police sought to disperse demonstrators following a day of peaceful events commemorating Brown's fatal shooting.

Heavy gunfire reported at memorial for Ferguson teen

Heavy gunfire has been reported at a memorial marking a year since black teenager Michael Brown was shot by a white police officer.

St Louis County PD tweeted the shooting was at officer and that two unmarked police cars had been hit. It added: "We will release further details when available."

Earlier in the day around six shots were reportedly fired but it was unclear if anyone was injured.

About six shots were heard as around 300 people made their way to a church on the outskirts of Ferguson, USA.

Police said is was initially unclear who fired the shots or if anyone was injured.

The march was stopped while police and ambulance crews rushed to an area behind a church where the shots were thought to have come from.

Hundreds of people have gathered in Ferguson, USA, to mark one year since unarmed black teenager Michael Brown was shot dead by a white police officer.

A four-and-a-half minute silence was held at the spot where he was killed to represent the roughly four-and-a-half hours the 18 year old's body lay in the street after being shot.

The crowd, which included his father Michael Brown Snr, then took part in a silent march in memory of the teen and others killed by police.

At the memorial, Brown's father wore a T-shirt bearing his son's image and the slogan "Chosen for Change." Others held "Black Lives Matter" banners and signs calling for justice for those killed by police.
