In a surprise for most politics watchers Ed Miliband has become an internet sensation, winning the support of an army of teenage girls describing themselves as the Milifandom.

Wife thought #milifandom was 'case of mistaken identity'

Ed Miliband has revealed that his wife Justine did not believe him when he told her he had a large and passionate online fanbase.

Mr Miliband told his wife about the #milifandom last night but he told BBC Radio 2's Jeremy Vine show: "She thought it must be a case of mistaken identity.

"I then tried to convince her it wasn't a case of mistaken identity and she went from amused to bemused."

Asked about comments suggesting he was so cool that Tweeters could "die happy" after meeting him, the Labour leader said: "I'm definitely blushing now.

"I certainly wouldn't claim to be cool, by the way, I don't think I've ever been called that."

Ed Miliband thanks #milifandom founder for support

Ed Miliband has responded to his biggest fan on Twitter thanking her for her support.

The Labour leader has seen a marked increase in young people, especially women, asking for selfies while on the campaign trail. In the last couple of days that popularity has spread to Twitter where #milifandom has been trending.

One account has been credited as starting the campaign and now Mr Miliband has sent her his thanks.
