Cumberbatch and Redmayne among Brits up for Golden Globes

The surreal showbusiness satire Birdman has led the Golden Globe Awards film nominations with seven potential gongs.

In the Best Comedy or Musical Film category, Birdman will contend with The Grand Budapest Hotel, Into the Woods, Pride and St Vincent.

In the best drama film category, Boyhood goes up against Foxcatcher, The Imitation Game, Selma, and The Theory of Everything.

Keira Knightley and Meryl Streep are among the stars who will battle it out for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes.

They will face Patricia Arquette, Jessica Chastain and Emma Stone at the awards ceremony.

Dame Helen Mirren and Emily Blunt have both been nominated for Best Actress in a Movie Comedy or Musical.

Amy Adams, Julianne Moore and Quvenzhane Wallis are also hoping they will take the award at the 72nd annual Golden Globes.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne have been nominated for the Best Actor in a Movie Drama at the Golden Globes.

They will face Steve Carell, Jake Gyllenhaal and Davie Oyelow at the awards,

Ricky Gervais has thanked his fans for supporting his comedy Derek after he was nominated for a Golden Globe.

Downton Abbey will face off against Game of Thrones at the Golden Globes as they compete for Best Television Series Drama.

The Affair, The Good Wife and House of Cards are also nominated.

Martin Freeman has been nominated for Best Actor in a TV Series for his role in Fargo.

Freeman will battle it out against Woody Harrelson, Matthew McConaughey, Mark Ruffalo and Billy Bob Thornton at the 72nd Golden Globes.

Downton Abbey's Joanne Froggatt has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series.

Uzo Aduba, Kathy Bates, Allison Janney and Michelle Monaghan were also nominated for the award.

Ricky Gervais has been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a TV Series Comedy for his title role in Derek.

Other nominees in the category are Don Cheadle, Jeffrey Tambor, Louis CK and William H Macy.
