Jaguar to create 1,700 jobs

Jaguar's £1.5 billion investment at its plant in Solihull will focus on one model, due for release next year. The all-aluminium car, a sports crossover concept vehicle due for release in 2015, will be the firm's flagship model, the company says.

Alan Volkaerts, Operations Director at Jaguar Land Rover's Solihull Plant, has told ITV News Central about the business' plans to build a new aluminium body shop.

Jaguar Land Rover announced it is creating 1,700 jobs and investing another £1.5bn into its factory at Solihull at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Jaguar Land Rover's CEO, Dr Ralf Speth, has addressed the world's media at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Dr Speth said today was a 'very important day' for the business. Jaguar Land Rover announced it is creating 1,700 new jobs and investing another £1.5bn into its factory at Solihull.

Jaguar Land Rover has announced significant investments in advanced aluminium vehicles, which the firm has showcased in a C-X17 Jaguar sports crossover concept vehicle.

Dr. Ralf Speth, JLR chief executive officer, said: “Jaguar Land Rover is a business driven by design, technology and innovation and this investment and level of job creation is yet further evidence of our commitment to advancing the capability of the UK automotive sector and its supply chain.”

Business Secretary Vince Cable has said Jaguar's 'ground-breaking' project takes the company to a 'new level'.

He said: "Jaguar Land Rover has been experiencing great success over the last couple of years but this ground-breaking project takes Jaguar on to the next level.

"This all-aluminium architecture project typifies the type of innovative and high value R&D that the UK excels in and government is supporting through the automotive industrial strategy."

Jaguar's £1.5 billion investment at its plant in Solihull will go towards developing technically-advanced aluminium parts for future models.

The first model to show the technology will be a mid-sized sports saloon car, due to be launched in 2015.
