The nephew of a British mother reportedly "hacked to death" in a violent robbery in Bangladesh said that Rehana Begum had been visiting her family.

Speaking to the BBC, Abdul said: "It happened this morning. She has been hacked to death by four people for jewellery and money."

Foreign Office 'aware' of British woman's death

The Foreign Office has confirmed the death of a British national in Bangladesh today, who was reportedly "hacked to death" during a violent robbery in Sunamganj.

The 43-year-old from Stepney, east London, is believed to have been on holiday there with her husband and 12-year-old son. An FCO spokeswoman said:

We are aware of the death of a British national Rehana Begum in Sunamganj, Bangladesh on 2 August.

We are providing consular assistance to her family at this difficult time.
