Brownlees storm to medal wins

Thousands of Team GB fans cheered the Brownlee brothers to their historic gold and bronze triathlon triumph today. Alistair lived up to his pre-race billing with an emphatic victory while it was younger brother Jonathan who finished third.

Brownlee brothers crowned Yorkshire's latest Olympics heroes

The Brownlee brothers' success in the men's triathlon continued the outstanding medal haul of athletes from Yorkshire at London 2012.

Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee's swim, cycle and runs to gold and bronze, respectively, has seen them hailed as local heroes in Leeds, as ITV Calendar reports.

Their dedication and commitment to their sport is astonishing, and they are perfect ambassadors and role models for Leeds. It is wonderful to see that rewarded with this well-deserved success. We cannot wait to give them a heroes’ welcome when they come back to Leeds to celebrate.

The Brownlee brothers have received the fruits of their labours around central London today in the Olympic men's triathlon.

Alistair Brownlee, 24, came first to win Team GB's 19th gold medal of the Games before Jonathan Brownlee, 22, claimed bronze despite serving a 15-second penalty during the race.
