Britain fails to pick up a medal
Britain's hopes of a golden start to the Olympics were dashed today as the nation failed to pick up a medal. Huge crowds turned out to line the route of the 250km men's road race, the weather was good and there were no reported transport problems.

Table Tennis: Middlesbrough's Paul Drinkhall has won his first round match against Kuwait's Ibrahem Al-Hasan 4-0. Second round match tomorrow at 13:30.
Football: Team GB Women made it two victories in as many games, defeating Cameroon 3-0. The second goal from Jill Scott was particularly impressive.
Swimming: Ellen Gandy is through to the final of tomorrow's women's 100m butterfly after coming fifth in her semi-final.

Team GB women's football team looking ahead to next challenge
Murrays crash out in first round in Olympic tennis
Andy and Jamie Murray crashed out in the first round of the Olympic men's doubles this evening in a very tight battle with Austria's Jurgen Melzer and Alexander Peya.
The British pair were cheered on on Court Two and edged the first set but, despite being twice a break ahead in the decider, they could not close it out and went down 5-7 7-6 (8/6) 7-5 after two hours and 23 minutes.

Disappointment for Michael Phelps in fourth place finish
Ryan Lochte of the United States won the gold medal in the men's 400 metres individual medley tonight. It's a bitter disappointment for American Michael Phelps, who was defending the title he won at the past two Olympics. He finished finished fourth.
Brazil's Thiago Pereira was second and Japan's Kosuke Hagino third.
