Former Senator John Edwards appeared outside court in North Carolina to thank his supporters and his family for standing by him during his criminal trial for campaign fraud. He used the opportunity to apologise to his family, and said:
"I want to make sure that everyone hears from me that while I do not believe I did anything illegal, or ever thought I was doing anything illegal, I did an awful, awful lot that was wrong. There is no one else responsible for my sins."
