Major disruption in Winchester after city centre fire

Part of Winchester High Street had to be closed and shoppers moved to safety when a fire broke out at council offices which are currently being refurbished.

More than 50 firefighters were called to Three Minsters House at the top of the High Street - near the Crown Courts - shortly before 1:30 this afternoon. Roads closures meant traffic through the city centre came to a standstill.
