Andrew Scott, 27 and of Winterborne Whitechurch, left home between 3pm and 4pm on Monday10 July 2017, but failed to return as expected.
Dorset Police were called at 8.55pm after a bag containing his belongings were located at White Nothe and his car was found parked at Ringstead Bay, five miles east of Weymouth.
Officers are concerned that Andrew may have come to harm in the water and searches have been carried out overnight, led by HM Coastguard. The search has resumed this morning.
Andrew was possibly wearing a full black North Coast wetsuit, blue flippers and a snorkel. His bright orange dry bag containing his car keys, mobile phone and clothing were found on the coastline.
