Detectives are appealing for witnesses a bank was robbed in Whitstable.

Police were called to the Barclays branch on the High Street just after 10am this morning.

A man is reported to have walked into the bank and shown a member of staff a note claiming he had a weapon and ordering the member of staff to hand over cash from the till.

He was described as white, about 30 to 40-years-old, of a slim build and about 5ft 7in tall. He had a fair complexion and a freckled face. He was wearing a dark navy or black padded jacket with the hood up. The jacket had small diamond stitching and a gold zip.

"Whitstable High Street on a Saturday morning would have been very busy and we are hoping someone saw this man, either before, after or at the time of the robbery."
