Swindon man sentenced over sexual abuse
A Swindon man, who repeatedly raped and sexually abused five females between 1977 and 2014 has been sentenced at Swindon Crown court to 25 years in jail.
George Tinsley, 61, from Welcombe Avenue, Park South, Swindon was earlier found guilty of 38 counts of historic sexual offences at Swindon Crown Court. He committed the offences against five victims over a period of 37 years.
A number of the counts he was found guilty of where multi-incident counts of rape and sexual abuse, meaning the offence happened more than once.
Det Con Janet Thomas who led the investigation said:
"Tinsley coerced and threatened the girls as he satisfied his own perverted sexual desires. He preyed on the young victims and made them believe that there would be serious consequences if they spoke of the abuse."
"The victims have shown strength and bravery in coming forward despite it being very difficult for them, but we hope that the verdict today will provide them some peace of mind. Today's result has been the culmination of a thorough, detailed investigation and many months of partnership working with the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Unit of the Crown Prosecution Service."
"We hope this case will highlight how seriously Wiltshire Police and CPS take both current and historic abuse cases and that we will take every action available to bring offenders to justice."
