Detention centre won't re-open as a prison, government reveals
Haslar detention centre won't re-open as a prison, the government revealed today.
The centre on Dolphin Way in Gosport closed in March last year but the Ministry of Justice retained the site for use as a prison in the future.
The announcement comes as more than two thousand more prison officers are to be recruited nationwide to combat problems like violence and drugs.
Last week, a riot lasting six hours took place at Lewes Prison which saw offices and cells damaged.
