Storm Imogen batters the region

Storm Imogen is bringing high winds and torrential rain to the South, South East and Thames Valley. Drivers, ferry services, flights and rail passengers are all being affected. It could bring floods, and the Met Office has issued amber warnings of wind for much of the South West. There is a yellow warning stretching from southern Wales to the Thames Estuary as the storm sweeps in from the English Channel.

Isle of Wight hit by the highest wind speed in country

The Met Office has released a list of some of the strongest wind speeds recorded since Storm Imogen began - with Needles Old Battery on the west coast of the Isle of Wight topping the list with 96mph gusts reported.

Marino Zanti, general manager of The Needles Landmark Attraction, said that the storm was almost as bad as the one in 1987.
