Community devastated after huge fire at church

Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a fire at the All Saints Church on Church Road. The roof of the Grade II listed building has been destroyed.

2nd arrest in connection with church fire

Police appealing for information and witnesses following a fire at the All Saints Church on Church Road, Fleet have arrested a 16-year-old boy.

Officers attended the scene of the fire at 5.49pm yesterday after being notified by colleagues from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Areas around the church were sealed off while fire crews worked to put out the flames and examine damage to the building.

There were no reports of any injuries and officers are investigating whether the fire is linked to any similar reports.

“The fire has completely destroyed the church and has understandably caused concern within the local community. Our officers are in the area providing reassurance to local churches and the community.”

A 17 year-old boy from Fleet was arrested on suspicion of arson and has been bailed until August 27, pending further investigation.

A 16-year-old boy from Basingstoke was arrested yesterday evening and is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
