Solar eclipse 2015: Millions witness phenomenon, but cloud spoils spectacle for many in the south

For many in the south, the solar eclipse was spoiled by thick cloud. But hundreds of people travelled north to witness the spectacle in the Faroe Islands, more than two hundred miles north of Scotland. For some it is there first eclipse, for others - the eclipse chasers - seeing the eclipse is almost an obsession and they spend thousands of pounds every year seeing the astronomical event around the world.

Crowds in the Thames Valley region gather to see the partial eclipse

Lucky skygazers in the Thames Valley were among millions who saw a rare solar eclipse cast its shadow across Europe today. Some described an eerie feelilng as a chilly darkness descended on families, commuters, office workers, and schoolchildren, who'd stepped outside for a look. But for some, it was a big disappointment. Cloud cover reduced the event to gazing at a darkened sky on a cold morning. As Juliette Fletcher reports from Abingdon, inland was the place to be.
