Eastbourne pier receives £2 million from government

Downing Street has said that Eastbourne will receive £2 million after a fire that destroyed a building on the town's pier.

The Prime Minister is due to make the official announcement today. David Cameron said that he knows the fire on Eastbourne Pier will have 'hit the town hard', and pledged his support for local businesses.

David Cameron and George Osborne have seen first-hand the destruction wrought by a fire on Eastbourne Pier - as it was announced that the resort is to be given up to £2 million.

The Prime Minister and Chancellor visited the East Sussex seaside town two days after part of the 144-year-old structure was left a scorched shell.
