UKIP leader Nigel Farage hit by placard during protest

The Leader of UKIP, Nigel Farage, has been hit on the head with a placard during a protest when he arrived in east Kent this afternoon.

The South East MEP was in Cliftonville in Margate to address supporters at a seaside hotel.

Farage "very frightened" by mob attack

The Leader of UKIP, Nigel Farage, was attacked when he arrived in Kent this afternoon. The MEP was in Cliftonville to address supporters.

A small but hostile crowd was outside. And in the demo, Mr Farage - who is still recovering from a major operation - was hit over the head with a placard.

Police have interviewed the UKIP leader and protesters about the assault. Nigel Farage told

our Political Correspondent , Phil Hornby, he found the event frightening.
