After a busy weekend Hampshire, the Olympic Torch will leave the county today. Starting in Portsmouth, the Flame will tour through Petersfield before heading into West Sussex.
A Normandy veteran and club servant started the Torch Relay today at Portsmouth FC's Fratton Park stadium. John Jenkins, 92, went to his first Pompey match in 1928. The longest break in his support for the club was during the Second World War where he was involved in the Normandy landings.
John was a part time soldier in the Royal Hampshire Regiment for 22 years and has dedicated over 50 years to working for the club in one form or another. On his retirement in 1984, John began volunteering at the ground as a much loved club steward, looking after guests for the last 18 years.
