BREAKING: Body found off Dorset coast believed to be missing fisherman

Dorset Police believe a body found off the coast near Weymouth is that of missing fisherman Andrew Scott.

Officers were called to water close to White Nothe at 10.55am this morning, after reports that a man's body had been sighted.

Although formal identification has not yet taken place, the body is believed to be that of the missing spear fisherman.

Andrew Scott, 27 and of Winterborne Whitechurch, left home between 3pm and 4pm on Monday 10 July, but failed to return as expected.

His family have been informed of the discovery and the coroner has been notified.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and Dorset Police say their thoughts are with Andrew’s family at this difficult time.

Officers are concerned that Andrew may have come to harm in the water and searches have been carried out led by HM Coastguard.

Officers are concerned that Andrew may have come to harm in the water and searches have been carried out overnight, led by HM Coastguard. The search has resumed this morning.

Andrew was possibly wearing a full black North Coast wetsuit, blue flippers and a snorkel. His bright orange dry bag containing his car keys, mobile phone and clothing were found on the coastline.

A major search is underway for a man who has gone missing while spear fishing off the Dorset coast.

27 year-old Andrew Scott didn't return home yesterday and his belongings and car were found at Ringstead Bay after a call from a concerned fisherman.

It was also reported that a snorkeller had been seen earlier in the day in the water.

The Coastguard Rescue teams along with HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lee-on-Solent, two lifeboats from Weymouth and one from Swanage have been conducting the search overnight along with Dorset Police.

There was enough information for us to be concerned for this snorkeller’s whereabouts and an extensive search of the shoreline and coast was launched."

"The search will resume again later this morning after crew rest but in the meantime if anyone has information that can help us with finding this man, or if it is you and you are safe, please call 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
