Thousands celebrate Brighton Pride

Extra security measures have been put in place at this weekend's Brighton Pride in light of recent terror attacks across Europe. Concrete barriers have been installed in crowded areas and extra police have been drafted in to keep party-goers and spectators safe. Organisers say the event has attracted more than two hundred thousand people. Tom Savvides reports.

Extra security measures for Brighton Pride

Concrete barriers along one of the main routes of Brighton Pride is just one of the ways that Sussex Police is working with organisers of this year's Pride celebrations to keep everyone safe.

Brighton and Hove divisional commander, Chief Superintendent Nev Kemp, said: "We have been working hard for months with the Pride organisers in order to make sure as many people as possible get to have an enjoyable and safe weekend.

In terms of security, where public safety has been significantly compromised as it has been in recent events overseas, we have considered any lessons that we can learn and reviewed our plans to keep Pride in Brighton and Hove as safe as possible."

Around 200,000 people are expected to take part in this weekend's Pride event in Brighton and Hove.

The weekend is all about celebrating the LGBT community - which is in its 26th year.

Last year, a bomb hoax, which was deliberately designed to disrupt the event, forced the festival to make last-minute changes to its route .
