Nine people treated after chemical leak in Henley-on-Thames

Nine people have been treated at the scene of a chemical leak in Henley-on-Thames. Emergency services were called to Bell Street just after 2:30pm this afternoon. The area is closed to vehicles and pedestrians.

Police statement on chemical leak in Henley-on-Thames

"Thames Valley Police is currently in Henley working with the fire and ambulance services as they deal with an incident at a shop in Bell Street.

At around 2.36pm today we were called when several customers came out of the store coughing and with streaming eyes. Nine people are being treated at the scene by South Central Ambulance.

There are cordons in place and are likely to be in place for the next two hours or so while the fire service deal with the incident . There are also traffic restrictions in place and drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible.

There is nothing to suggest that this is related to terrorism."

Part of Henley town centre has been closed off this afternoon due to a chemical leak.

Emergency services were called to the scene by WH Smith in Bell Street at 2:36pm.

The road is currently closed to vehicles and pedestrians.

Nine casualties have been assessed and treated at the scene.
