Mother breaks marathon world record

A mother from Hampshire has broken a world record after completing 60 marathons in 60 days.

Alice Burch from Woodlands in the New Forest broke the record at the Southampton Athletic Track.

Despite swollen ankles and damaged tendons, she managed to complete her challenge, while raising money for the animal charity SPANA.

Alice Burch from the New Forest is attempting to break the world record for the number of consecutive marathons run by running sixty marathons in sixty days.

Today she will complete her 60th - running with 60 friends at the sports centre in Southampton as the finale to her achievement.

It has taken her between 4.5 to 6.5 hours hours per marathon.

Alice is raising money for animal charity SPANA which helps to alleviate the suffering of working animals in some of the world's poorest communities in Africa and the Middle East.
