Maidstone clears up after floods

The county town of Kent has also been mopping up after the river Medway burst its banks. Pubs, shops and businesses in the centre of Maidstone were flooded; roads were shut or inaccessible. It's the worst weather the town's seen since the turn of the century.

David Johns reports, speaking to pub landlord John Buckwell.

Boxing Day Blues in Tonbridge

Residents of adjoining streets in Tonbridge have been salvaging items from their flooded homes after the River Medway burst its banks. More than 50 homes in this stretch of the town were abandoned and residents have had to move out for Christmas.

Now they are coming back to asses the damage. It is impossible to start a proper clear-up though because the streets and homes are still flooded - and more rain is forecast. Correspondent Derek Johnson has been to see the damage and has been speaking to those trying to make the best of it.
