Ambulance crash driver named

A 45-year-old man who died after his car collided with an ambulance on Marine Drive, outside Roedean Pitch and Putt gold course in Brighton, last night, has been named.

Gary Tucker, of Longridge Avenue, Saltdean, died at the scene of the crash, which happened at 10.40pm.

The 43-year-old passenger in the Fiat Seicento was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.

A member of the ambulance crew, which was on an emergency call, was slightly injured but was later discharged from hospital.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances of the collision and are asking anyone who saw what happened to call 101 quoting Operation Denmark.

A motorist was killed in Brighton last night when his car was involved in a crash with an ambulance responding to an emergency call.

The 45-year-old driver of the Fiat Seicento died at the scene of the collision in Marine Drive, outside Roedean pitch and putt golf course.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "At this stage, police are still investigating the circumstances of the collision and are asking anyone who saw what happened to call 101 quoting Operation Denmark."

South East Coast Ambulance Service has released this statement following a fatal collision in Brighton

“We can confirm that one of our ambulances was involved in a fatal road traffic collision with a car on Marine Drive in Brighton at 10.42pm yesterday evening.

"At the time, the ambulance crew were en-route to an emergency call nearby.

“Sadly, the driver of the car was killed and a passenger injured as a result of the incident. We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and our thoughts to all those involved.

"The ambulance crew involved suffered minor injuries and were later discharged from hospital.

“We will continue to work closely with Sussex Police as they investigate the causes of the road traffic collision.”
