Man in court over youth's death

A 42-year-old man will appear in court today charged with the murder of a 17-year-old in Hastings

Adam Skilton of Wilton Road, Bexhill, is accused of killing student Jacob Woudstra outside the Shah pub on Thursday.

He has also been charged with perverting the course of justice.

Wesley Long, 34, of High Street, Hastings, will also appear at Hastings Magistrates Court, charged with perverting the course of justice.

A 31-year-old man from Rye, arrested on suspicion of murder, and a 19-year-old man from Hastings, arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, have been released on bail.

A post-mortem examination found Jacob died from a single stab wound to the chest.

Man charged with Hasting murder

A Bexhill man has been charged with the murder of 17-year-old Jacob Woudstra in Hastings on April 5th.

On Sunday afternoon (April 8), the Crown Prosecution Service approved the charging of Adam Skilton, 42, of Wilton Road, Bexhill-on-Sea.

He has also been charged with perverting the course of justice. He will appear before Hastings Magistrates on Monday morning in relation to both charges. Also appearing will be Wesley Long, 34, of High Street, Hastings, who has been charged with perverting the course of justice.

A 31-year-old man from Rye, arrested on suspicion of the murder of Jacob, and a 19-year-old man from Hastings, arrested for violent disorder, have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Police have formally identified a teenager stabbed to death outside a pub following a dispute. Student Jacob Woudstra, 17, of Mount Pleasant Road, Hastings, died in Mount Pleasant Road at about 3pm on April 5. A post-mortem examination found the cause of his death was a stab wound to the chest.

Police have formally named a 17 year old boy who was stabbed to death in Hastings on Thursday. A post mortem revealed that Jacob Woudstra, of Mount Pleasant Road, Hastings died from a single stab wound to the chest. Two men arrested on suspicion of murder remain in police custody.

"The local community - and in particular those who knew Jacob - remain in shock by this tragedy and our thoughts are with them all at this very difficult time. I would like to stress that this is not a random attack and the wider community are not at risk. The attack appears to have followed a dispute in the public house between individuals that knew each other.... This type of crime is extremely uncommon and we do not want people to be unduly alarmed - Hastings remains a safe place to live, work and study.

A second man has been arrested in connection with a teenager's death in Hastings. The 41-year-old, from Bexhill, was detained by police this morning. A 31-year-old from Rye is still being questioned. Flowers and cards have been left in memory of Jacob Woudstra.
