Murder investigation launched following Reading stabbing
A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Reading.
Police were called by South Central Ambulance Service at 11.37pm yesterday (January 2) after the victim, a man aged in his forties, was found with serious stab wounds at a property on Maldon Close.
The victim died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit has launched a murder investigation following the incident.
A 49-year-old man, from Reading, was originally arrested yesterday for attempted murder. He has now been further arrested on suspicion of murder.
Investigating officer Detective Inspector Rob Underhill, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim at this extremely distressing time."
“We are still in the very early stages of this investigation and have made an arrest in connection with this incident."
“I understand that incidents such as this are tragic events and I recognise the concern this will cause in the local community. However, we are confident that there is no wider risk to the community and that the victim and offender are known to each other."
There is a scene-watch in place at the address while the investigation continues.
Police say it is likely to remain in place for some time, and urge anybody who has any concerns to please speak to officers at the scene.
Anyone who believes that they may have any information that may assist the investigation is also asked to contact Thames Valley Police quoting reference 43250002937.
