Around 50 homes have been evacuated in Basingstoke after a burst pipe flooded properties.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said homes affected are on Trinidad Close and Falkland Road.

Garages on Malta Close have also been impacted and there is a large flood on Carpenters Down Road.

Residents have left the flooded properties, helped by police, fire crews and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s emergency planning team.

The council has opened Popley Fields Community Centre for residents and repairs have begun.

South East Water Distribution Manager, Gavin Jobling, said: “We are so sorry to residents in the Basingstoke area whose homes have experienced flooding this morning (Friday) following a burst water main on Popley Way.

“We’re working with affected homeowners to ensure their properties are made safe and any damage is repaired.

“We are sorry to customers who have experienced no water or low pressure due to the burst and we’re working hard to move water around our network to try and restore supplies to as many customers as we can.

“We will work to complete the repairs as quickly as possible and apologise to everyone affected by this.”
