Southern Water have had engineers working overnight to locate the problem.
The company says that water supply has been restored to all those affected, bar 29 homes and 17 businesses.
A double delivery of bottled water has been delivered overnight to all the properties originally impacted.
The bottled water station at Keystone Medical Centre on Gun Lane, remains open on Christmas Day for those still without water.
A Southern Water spokesperson said: “We’re very sorry to our customers in Strood for the ongoing disruption.
