  • ITV Meridian's Megan Samrai found out why Angela Wright wanted to make an advent calendar of teddy bears

A grandmother from Kent has created a giant teddy bear advent calendar in her front garden

Angela Wright from Birchington had help from her family and neighbours to create the display, which is raising money for the Sunshine rotary club.

The calendar features an array of miniature Christmas scenes for each of the dates, including bears pulling crackers, and some getting decorations upstairs from the loft.

Creating the calendar with her husband, Angela said: "We just went to our local greengrocer's and asked if they could save us 24 boxes. Most of the stuff is out of my house or other roads' houses.

"I just sort of design a day everyday. Sometimes I wake up and I don't actually know what I'm going to do."

Angela has been nicknamed the 'Bear Lady' of Birchington and says the display has been popular with both children and grown ups.

As well as teddies, the display features other creatures including reindeer and a family of carrots. But she says her favourite is the snowman, made from a sweet's pot, along with the Christmas pudding.

Angela added: "I've got lots of teddies at home because of the kids and grandkids. I've just added some sort of bear in each scene really."

Angela also had some help from her 8-year-old grandson Zach, who had the idea to add some figgy pudding to the display.

His said his favourite designs included the carrots and the brussel sprouts, because "brussel sprouts are tasty."

But if he to change something, he told us that he would change one of the teddy bears to 'The Grinch' instead.
