Southampton farm fire, which destroyed two large barns, started deliberately

A fire which destroyed two farm barns in Southampton was started deliberately.

Hampshire Police are treating the blaze as arson.

More than 500 bales of hay were stored in the affected barns and 150 cattle housed nearby were moved to a safety.

The fire broke out on Coles Lane in Eling, Totton on the evening of 12 December 2024.

Detectives now say the blaze was suspicious.

Crews from Redbridge, St Mary’s, Totton, Hightown and Romsey were supported by the water carriers from Eastleigh, Ringwood and Fareham.

Relief crews coming from Fordingbridge, Hythe, Burley, Basingstoke, Cosham, Winchester and Lyndhurst arrived later in the night to take over from the firefighters who were first on scene.

Hampshire Police said: " We are appealing for anyone with information about the fire to come forward.

"Were you in the area on Thursday evening?

"Did you see any vehicles in the area, or anyone acting suspiciously?
