Dozens of firefighters battle Bournemouth blaze

  • Approximately 35 firefighters attended the property fire in Colehill, Bournemouth

A home in Bournemouth has been left without a roof after a large fire broke out.

Around 35 firefighters rushed the scene on Four Wells Road in Colehill just before midday.

People living in the area are being asked to keep their windows and doors shut due to significant smoke.

  • Dan Joslin, station manager from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service

The station manager from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We were called today, at around midday, to a fire in the roof space of a domestic property.

"Our first crews arrived within several minutes and found a well-developed fire in the roof space of a semi-detached property.

"Crews worked quickly to bring the fire under control and have managed to stop it spreading to the adjoining property.

"Unfortunately, the initial property involved has suffered some quite considerable damage."

He continued: "We have got around eight fire engines here, and an aerial ladder platform, which is providing us access to the roof, to allow us to make entry and extinguish the fire safely.

"It took crews approximately an hour and a half to get the fire fully under control and then we've been working over the last couple of hours to make sure there is no re-ignition or any further damage."

The cause of the fire is still unknown but an investigation will be carried out when it is safe to do so.
