Emergency workers injured in crash involving police vehicle and ambulance in Reading

A number of police and ambulance staff have been injured in a crash in central Reading.

A police vehicle and an ambulance - both travelling on blue lights - collided around 6.30pm on Monday (7 August).

It happened on Southampton Street at the junction with Pell Street and Crown Street.

Police say the driver and passenger in the police vehicle and the driver of the ambulance suffered minor injuries and were all taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading for treatment. They remain there at this time.

No other vehicles or pedestrians were involved in the collision.

Southampton Street, Crown Street and Pell Street were closed while police carried out enquiries.

Thames Valley Police officers are now appealing for witnesses.

Investigating officer Sergeant Chris Howlett of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, based at Three Mile Cross, said: “I am appealing to anybody who witnessed this collision to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police on 101, quoting reference number 43230351708.

“I would also urge anybody who may have dash-cam, CCTV or camera footage of the collision or the moments leading up to it to please submit this to the force via a dedicated portal for this investigation at https://unitedkingdom1cpp-portal.digital-policing.co.uk/serip/appeal/inc202308071644.

“Three people sustained minor injuries in this collision and the road has now reopened.”

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service said: “Following a collision last night involving a SCAS crew and a Thames Valley Police car on their way to different emergencies, three people involved were taken to hospital where they have been treated for minor injuries. No-one was seriously injured.
