Family pay tribute to man killed by single punch from security guard

The family of a man from Reading who died after being punched says he was "always the life and soul of a party."

Jason Page was hit by Sabeur Trabelsi, who was working as a security guard, outside the BP Petrol Station in Chalfont Way in 2021.

Trabelsi had earlier chased Mr Page out of a Marks and Spencer store for shoplifting.

Mr Page, who was 51, hit his head on the ground and died in hospital the following day.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Victoria Hunt said: “Whatever the reason for this confrontation, the violent punch was completely unnecessary."

Trabelsi, 45, was found guilty of manslaughter and perverting the course of justice, and was jailed for six years.

In a statement, Mr Page's family said "He loved spending time with family and friends".

They said: "Jason was a son, brother, uncle, cousin & friend with so many, as he lived all over the UK & Ireland, he was known to his friends as Pagey & they also called him Gentlemen J."

"He was always the life & soul of a party, loved spending time with family & friends, he loved the seaside & being in the countryside. He liked animals & wildlife & was a great lover of the outdoors.

He was a great spiritual believer & belonged to a spiritualist church in Reading.

"He always strived to look smart, very particular about his appearance, he would give anyone the shirt off his back & in his eyes everyone was equal, he would talk to anyone in any situation.

He was always accepted & well received by people. Our lives will never be the same without him, we miss him every single day & he will always be in our hearts.  Now he is reunited with his dad, fly high & be free. Taken from us far too soon."
