Arson investigation underway after car found alight next to Didcot Tesco

An arson investigation is underway after a car was set alight in Didcot.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue were called to a small vehicle on fire near the Tesco supermarket on Wallingford Road just after 3:30am on Monday morning. (19 December)

When crews arrived they found a Vauxhall Astra in flames behind the Halfords store.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly extinguished the fire with high pressure hose reels.

Posting on social media a spokesperson said: "The close proximity of this fire to the main rail line could have caused significant disruption if the wind direction had changed.

"The cause of the fire was believed to be arson.

"Thames Valley Police also attended the scene, if you have any information on this incident please contact them on 101."
