M20 closed and miles of queuing traffic after fuel spill

Drivers in Kent are being warned of long delays after part of the M20 was closed following a fuel spill.

Emergency services, including the Fire and Rescue service were called to the carriageway between junctions 5 and 6 for Maidstone on Monday morning after what Highways England has described as a 'significant diesel spill.'

There is currently four miles of queuing traffic with motorists warned of 20 minute delays, with people also warned of longer journey times on alternative routes.

Traffic is currently being diverted via the feeder road from J6 to J5, follow the hollow square symbol.

According to Highways England the road remains closed between the two junctions, and the clean up operation is underway.
