Investigation underway into blaze at former cockle storehouse at Whitstable Harbour
A former cockle storehouse in Kent has been destroyed in a major fire.
At its height, around 40 firefighters tackled the blaze next to the fish market at Whitstable Harbour, which broke out on Thursday afternoon, May 26.
Three fire engines remain at the scene of the fire, where crews are assisting with demolition.
Neighbouring businesses were evacuated as a precaution. Nobody is believed to have been injured.
Crews managed to stop it spreading to the new 15-unit business development South Quay Shed.
Canterbury City Council said the site will not open on Friday, May 27, so that checks can be carried out.
No casualties were reported and an investigation into the cause is underway.
The earlier advice from Kent Fire and Rescue Service to close windows and doors is no longer in place.
