Storm Barra is causing disruption across the south with some roads impassable, and delays and cancellations to rail services.

61mph winds have been recorded in Dorset and on the Isle of Wight.

Network Rail has been forced to impose a 50 mile an hour speed limit across parts of Hampshire and Dorset. That includes services between Southampton and Weymouth, and Eastleigh and Cosham.

At Weston Shore in Southampton, drivers were forced to turn around to avoid flood waters, while others successfully attempted to drive through the deluge.

High winds whipped up tempestuous seas, including here at Worthing.

A flood warning remains in place at Christchurch Harbour, with dozens of flood alerts in place across the south coast, including between Rustington and Shoreham in West Sussex, Poole Harbour in Dorset and Hayling Island in Hampshire.

In Worthing in West Sussex strong waves were seen lashing the coast.

Brighton's Christmas Festival was also shut today because of the weather, with organisers saying they reviewed the weather and made the decision to cancel for the safety of visitors.

The festival is due to reopen tomorrow as normal. (Wednesday 8 December)
