Public inquiry to consider Oxford Station development plans

A public hearing into the planned development of Oxford railway station begins today.

Network Rail wants to expand the site, including a second station entrance with a ticket office and retail space.

It also wants to build an additional platform (platform 5) on the west side of the station.

Oxford City Council says the expansion will pave the way for better rail connectivity for the area and allow for more investment.

However, local businesses and residents have raised concerns about the impact of the scheme on the local area.

The planning application will be heard before a planning inspector at the public inquiry.

A final decision on it is then expected in the new year.
