A lost swan has been spotted by police, waiting in the queue for a Covid booster jab.

The bird, described as being disorientated, was photographed on Witney High Street in Oxfordshire opposite the Caffe Nero coffee shop.

The West Oxfordshire team from Thames Valley Police tweeted a photo of the bird, explaining that they are waiting for the RSPCA.

PCSO's Fiona & Dayne say the swan appeared totally disorientated. The RSPCA has been called to take the bird to safety.

The RSPCA say swans can often land on busy carriageways, and it's thought that thermals and wind turbulence over roads may knock the swans off balance and bring them down onto road surfaces.

Swans need a long run before taking flight, and may be unable to take off if there is insufficient space.

Advice from the RSPCA:

If the bird is found on the road or trapped on a central reservation, or a rescue represents a real danger to the rescuer, the traffic police should be informed.

You should not attempt to hand-rear the cygnet yourself.
