A public consultation on plans for a lorry checkpoint in Kent closes tonight (17 November).

The plans are for an Inland Border Facility on farmland near the village of Guston, around three miles from the port of Dover.

It would have the ability to hold 150 trucks.

The proposed development is two-thirds smaller than what was originally suggested earlier in the year.

The diggers arrived in Guston shortly after local residents received a letter from the Department for Transport on New Year's Eve.

The site will carry out customs checks on goods entering and leaving the country.

Extra facilities have been created in the region where there is no additional space at ports, according to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

If plans are approved, the start of the main construction will begin in early 2022.
