Guy Fawkes bonfire night celebration turns to chaos as fireworks fly into crowd and set van on fire

Spectators watched on in horror as a Bonfire Night fireworks display went horribly wrong.

Thousands of people attending the organised fireworks display in the New Forest on Saturday night watched the chaos unfold.

The pyrotechnics display suddenly began firing back on themselves, setting a van containing fireworks alight.

In footage of the event at Matcham, spectators at an be heard gasping and exclaiming "oh my God' as the van goes up in flames.

Danielle Bryan was at the display with her daughter, when sparks from nearby fireworks landed on them burning their clothing. It caused damage to her daughter's coat and hat.

Danielle was at the display with her friend Ashlee. Her son's trousers were also damaged from the sparks.

Organisers quickly alerted the crowds that they were on scene to deal with the fire.

Dorset Fire and Rescue confirmed they were called to reports of a fire involving a vehicle containing fireworks at Matchams Arena on Saturday night.

The van fire had already been extinguished when firefighters arrived. An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

ITV Meridian has approached the organisers, Ringwood Raceway, for an interview, but they have yet to respond.
