Actress Anita Dobson to star in Brighton Centre's first ever pantomime

Actress Anita Dobson says she's "very excited" to be back on stage starring in The Brighton Centre's first ever pantomime this Christmas.

Best known as Angie Watts in the TV soap EastEnders, Anita will be playing the evil Abanazar in Aladdin.

Anita said: "The people that I've been working with since I was asked to do this show have all been lovely, such fun.

"The cast are gorgeous, I've just met everybody. They're all really jolly and upbeat and raring to go, so we're going to hope to make this one of the best pantomime's you've ever seen.

"There's lots of beautiful costumes, the sets are great, it's in The Brighton Centre which is huge.

"So although it's a short run, book now because we need you to come and see us because we are raring to go."

The show is being staged from Wednesday December 22 until Monday December 27.

Anita will be joined on stage by children's TV star Carl Tracey, The Sundaes and radio presenter Allison Ferns.

Anita believes "everybody needs a shot in the arm" after lockdown which was "appaling".



During lockdown, Anita looked after her husband, Queen guitarist Brian May, after he had a heart attack.

Anita said: "It was completely unexpected. Suddenly I found myself being a cook, cleaner and a carer which is not a role I'm cast-able for.

"But thank God he's better now and he's well and doing his exercises, so we got through that one."

The pantomime is part of the Brighton Christmas Festival which begins on November 26 to December 31.

A traditional festive market, with more than one hundred stalls and live entertainment every day, are among the attractions.
